I’ve been flitting somewhat between projects of late. A recent acquisition from Irregular Miniatures included some of their fantasy figures:

Goblins and Dark Elf Witches above, but I’ve got something from every race present to work my way through painting.
I’d considered delving into an existing fantasy skirmish system, but alas once again I am drawn towards producing my own rules. I looked around online for ‘statless’ systems as when playing solo which I most often do you can find yourself looking up stats a lot. It seems in the RPG world there are a few ideas out there, but mostly come down to a group of people agreeing on a certain outcome, which is hard to do on your own. So I abandoned the ‘statless’ system idea entirely and have been considered systems that use stats but where the stats are invisible to the player.

I came up with what you see above, counters, lots of counters in a bag; with odd symbols on, I went for runic designs but you could use letters.
The counters are double sided, red and grey/black.
Say you wanted to have your Orc attack an Elf, draw two counters and look at the red sides. If a symbol matches Orc or your Orc’s rank (basic, trained, hero) then you score a hit. Draw two more counters now looking at the black sides if they match your target’s race or armour value you cause a wound. Simple eh?
I’ve been able to have stat lines for example Dwarves hit more often than Goblins, without having a piece of paper nearby for me to consult. The counters act as both the stats and the dice!
Hopefully this idea will develop into a fully fledged system and I won’t flit to something else, who is to say?
