I’ve never had a scenic board before, although I have been very envious of all the YouTubers and bloggers online that have fantastic gaming setups. But I thought I do have the space and all the stuff to produce a board for my 2mm fantasy armies, so excitedly I set to work!

I started out with a cork notice board, it’s mostly a cheap mdf frame and cardboard with a thin layer of cork over the entire thing, they make great little gaming boards, and I drew a grid on this one for long forgotten reasons. You can pick them up in the UK from Tesco and Wilkinsons.

I created my hills out of some polystyrene sheets we had from some flatpack bookshelves. Knowing the foam would melt if I sprayed it black I covered the entire thing in classic Art Attack papier-mâché, that’s toilet paper applied with a 50/50 mix of water and PVA glue.

I got to work with cheap craft paint and then finished the board with flock and clump foliage.

You might have noticed the metal village from an early photo is no longer there, that’s because I decided that I’d like the board to also work for 6mm figures or even for 15mm figures. Trees become bushes, roads become paths as you go up in scale.

The Sentinels of Valemar clash with the Undead in the valley.

I had fun making this board, it didn’t take too long, and best of all I already had everything lying around so it was free!
