A 6mm Distraction

Occasionally I find things in the drawer of abandoned minis. In the week just passed I found some 6mm infantry from Scotia Grendel and some sci fi tanks from Irregular.

I think the trick I’ve learned is to paint less and paint more starkly. Don’t do too many highlights, keep your scheme simple and striking.

I suppose it’s unorthodox to individually base 6mm figures but my plan was to use these guys for 40k-ish games in a smaller scale and on a much smaller budget. I think in total for both forces I probably paid around £10.

The guys above are listed as ‘power armour’ on the Scotia Grendel site and don’t look particularly good in bare metal, they’re fairly statically and strange posed but I think they do well once you’re looking at them from normal gaming range on a table, the big shoulder pads and bubble style helmet help their silhouette no end.

My second force is mainly built from the alien infantry from Scotia Grendel, they’re rather strange with hunched over bodies and long worm like tails, almost rat-men, but they lack big ears.

I went for something a bit more standard military with their colour scheme and I really like the wavy line pattern on the vehicles.

As with any project I wrote a quick and simple rule set and I had a decent amount of fun with it. Nothing too developed to post yet, but I will stress that it has a full points system for many, many units and I thoroughly enjoyed the morning I spent on an excel spreadsheet turning stat lines into points totals. It’s a niche aspect to the hobby but if you enjoy statistics and algebra I’d recommend giving it a go.
