The causes of the Second Global War on the planet Jendar are obvious. With the end of the Camerian Civil War and the new United Cameria joining the Jendari Collective in 2100AC the power balance between the two great powers of Jendar had shifted. House Baronor now in a weaker position chose to strike first hoping to do enough damage to the Collective before the Collective could bring their new advantage in numbers to bear. The war itself began when the nation of Harkovia invaded Goza which under the various rules of both alliances meant all nations on both sides were immediately pulled into the conflict. At this point the war for the moon Oltra had dragged on for almost one hundred years, with neither the SynJen Alliance or the ALL managing to claim much more territory than they had done in the first few months however this was to be expected. A war for a country could span years, a war for a continent could span a decade so a war for a moon would likely take more than a century, especially once you consider the logistical issues.

The Oltra War was Prime Coldan Thrane’s baby, and while it did little to solve the economic issues of the Collective which was his original intention, it did strengthen ties with House Barnonor and that put the Second Global War off for almost a hundred years. His service as Prime and the reign of Queen Ora Baronor were largely peaceful for the civilians of the planet Jendar and were considered somewhat of a golden age. However as younger more radical politicians arose within the Collective and as Queen Ora’s daughter Princess Elena gained greater attention in the public eye as the very image of her Grandmother who believed in the superiority of House Baronor many citizens started expressing more extreme and patriotic views. They blamed the failure of the Oltra War on the other side and especially on the use of Synths from the Hegemony. The Sanctified Temple, the largest religious group on Jendar, who were entirely opposed to even the existence of Synths pushed the myth forwards that Synths had sabotaged war efforts as they had been originally created by the Legion of Kharthion. This led to further break down within SynJen and the Hegemony of Synthos simply left Oltra and fled in their ships. This hurt their reputation further amongst the militaries of House Baronor and the Collective. The end of the Camerian Civil war and the sudden invasion of Goza by Harkovia put the final nail in the coffin of the Oltra War for SynJen as the Jendari Collective and House Baronor engaged in a mad scramble to get their forces home to fight in the new conflict. Many units that had fought alongside each other for decades were torn apart and now placed on opposite sides.

“Historians will argue that we lost the war, I would argue that we lost a war so that we might win the war.” Prime Darrik June of the Jendari Collective.

The early stages of the Second Global War were extremely difficult for both sides although for different reasons. The Harkovians did not have time to fully prepare for the invasion, and under the Heaven’s Peace Accord no spaceships were allowed to engage in the conflict. While Harkovia had one of the largest planetary navies being an island nation, not many of the ships were equipped for naval warfare and almost no personnel had real life experience of naval combat, the last naval battle taking place in the First Global War almost 500 years prior. While the Harkovians had the element of surprise Gozan planetary defence systems were used on the approaching invaders. Guided missiles designed to take down spaceships tore through the comparatively slow moving vessels and few made landing. Once the surviving Harkovian drop troops had made it to the shore they were faced with few defenders. Gozan challenges were different, while the aforementioned defence systems were highly effective, many Gozan troops were still returning from Oltra. Had the Harkovians been better prepared and equipped, they would have picked the perfect time to strike. Unfortunately for the Harkovians the few Gozan defenders managed to hold their positions in time for the forces of the Rin Empire to move in.
