Short post from a slow week. I’ve been experimenting with the slapchop painting technique on my deathzap figures.
For those not in the know to slapchop you first prime the figure black and the drybrush them white:

Then you apply contrast paints, I use citadel’s although other manufacturers equivalents are available and often said are better:

And that’s it really. In this instance I did pick out the pistol with silver and gave it a wash, and I picked out the banding and cap with white. Comparing the results to my older figures which were just contrast over a white prime I prefer this method quite a bit:

And it’s not too onerous to add those couple of extra steps.
It does mean I’ll be procrasti-painting for the next little while though, getting forces to match this new style. Hopefully I’ll have a full battle report and the next part of my global campaign ready soon!
I am not a huge fan of that technique, but it is a fast method. What fascinates me is the actual figures. One of them has a cap which looks like French Foreign Legion. I wonder what the original figures looked like. I like the way you color the figures in all kinds of uniforms.
I’m not sure I like the “contrast” painting method, but one can not argue with the side-by-side results of the standard method and the slap-chop method. Slap-chop wins hands-down!
