Making Your Own Nurgle Dreadnought

Last week a friend and I finally got a game in of Grimdark Future. Wanting to try something different, I pulled out my Death Guard army. I’d long forgotten how much I loved this force, and after a cheeky victory, I was itching to add more.

Key to my force were two Dreadnoughts, and I really wanted more Dreads with different weapons for differing strategies.

While out with the wife in a big discount shop in the UK called B&M, I snatched up a small baby doll:

Thinking with some alterations I could make something roughly the right size, I started cutting.

Overall the model was a tad big, it’s no larger than a Redemptor, and would work well as a Great Unclean One, so I’m really covering all bases here.

Starting with the back, utilising some spare MDF bases, wooden cubes, felt tip pen lids, dog poo bag cardboard tubes, and the turret of a toy tank, I built out the Dread’s ‘engine’.

The rest of the model was built out with spare chaos bits, chain, and clump foliage. I was rather naughty filling gaps with toilet paper and super glue. Thankfully my hobby space is well ventilated, as the loo roll and glue combo does smoke a bit.

I then primed and textured the whole thing with a goop. That’s PVA glue, No More Nails, black paint, sand and static grass all mixed together.

Painting was a largely experimental process, lots of very watered down and mixed colours so get a rusty, nurgly look.

I then went a little mad with acrylic inks, dripping them from above, coming out of the engine’s pipes and running down the rest of the figure.

I’ve got a little ways to go yet, but I think the whole model is coming along nicely, if a little creepily.

  1. Dog poo bags and toilet paper seem very appropriate. A trail of litter on the base would add to the overall vibe too. 🙂

    Another excellent model!
