The wife and I have been away this weekend at a Youth Work conference in Birmingham, so I haven’t managed much hobby, however before leaving I did manage to paint up some new Irregular Miniatures for SKIRMASH. Although they are still awaiting their matt varnish.

I’ve got a second Troll from their 15mm fantasy range as they make great 28mm Orcs. My other Troll featured in my last post, I called him Trog and he proved very capable. I think I’ll call this one ‘Gort’. I couldn’t figure out what was going on with his teeth initially, thinking that Orcs are supposed to have big teeth sticking up from their lower jaws. Then I realised he’s got walrus style tusks, a really cool design choice for Trolls. I wish other manufacturers would cotton onto that idea.

My second figure is an elf, I chose to give him the same scheme as my Windblade Elves from my Universal Skirmish game:

I’m guessing an elf got lost and travelled to whatever dimension SKIRMASH happens in. I thought a Legolas type character would be a good addition.

Continuing the fantasy theme, I’ve also added a dryad, which I guess is just a smaller tree-person? This Ent is from Irregular’s 6mm fantasy range and an absolute steal at 88p for a 28mm sized metal figure. Mine has been tarted up with a little additional clump foliage, and featured a ways back in my Monochrome Skirmish game:

I simply rebased him, and added a little more colour to his paint job.

Next up I’ve got a Jester, he comes in a useful set of figures, rather than on his own. You get him, a bear (who’s already featured in SKIRMASH as Polar), a bear handler and a page. You might be able to tell from my Jester’s paint job that I’d recently seen a Terrifier film featuring Art the clown.

I’ve got an executioner too, I’ve had this figure multiple times for multiple things, but funnily he comes part of a set too, containing a ‘victim’ tied to a block ready for execution and a basket to catch his head. I’ve never made use of the victim, as since he’s tied to a block I’ve never thought he’d be particularly useful in a fight, however he could be part of a scenario maybe? I could imagine a medieval full contact sport where you have to get your executioner to his target while stopping the other team getting their executioner to theirs.

Here’s a dwarf with a massive gun, who’s part of Irregular’s 28mm Sci-fi range as one of their ‘Fantasy Travelers’. I’ve already got their Orc and Elf from this part of that range. Their back left and back right in the picture below:

Here’s the aforementioned ‘page’, although I think I’ll imagine him as a nightmarish choir boy. Mentioning before that my bad guys needed more fire power, why not have a choir boy who can hit such high notes peoples eyes and eardrums burst.

Finally, I’ve got a random Billman from the Middle Ages. I think I got him for free as Irregular couldn’t provide something else I’ve forgotten about. Hopefully he doesn’t feel out of his depth facing man eating plants, vampires and cyborgs.
don’t forget the oozes
I do love Irregular’s figures 🙂
How underrated they are as a company comes up a lot when I post them. They initially drew me in, because although their sculpting isn’t as technically good as other manufacturers, they are often half or less than half the price, and they sell figures individually, so I can do strange little projects like this!
Yes I have a ridiculous number of their figures 🙂
