Painting Space Marines Very Quickly

I had some kind of sick desire to paint Space Marines this weekend (please forgive me), especially as they were Loyalist ones too…

Anyway, I didn’t have any, but thankfully I do have the kind of friend that offered to give me a bunch. I came away with two captains, five assault intercessors and a dreadnought. I picked my favourite of the two captains (it helped he had already been primed) to start my little force, and started thinking about how to paint them as fast as possible.

Once everything was black (which with minimal black paint remaining in my arsenal and no black spray can was surprisingly difficult) I set about drybrushing everything metallic (Leadbelcher if you want specifics). I decided that I wanted the scheme to be metallic from the get go, as metallics drybrush really well without leaving you with that drybrushed look, and where that look exists, it looks like tarnished or scratched up metal rather than drybrushed paint.

From here I put down Doomfire Magenta over the torsos and heads of the figures, replicating that as best as I could on the dread.

Then I put Sigvald Burgundy over weapon casings, and Akhelian Green over the chest Aquilla and whatever extra details like skulls etc that the armour had. Black Templar went over the undersuit and grenades.

Purity seals were painted with Wraithbone and then Aggaros Dunes went over the parchment and Akhelian Green went on the wax. Pouches were painted with Bugmans Glow and then Aggaros Dunes.

Eyes and lenses were given a coat of Nihilakh Oxide and I was pretty much done.

I did a little extra work by highlighting the edges of the pouches and purity seals by using wraithbone or wraithbone mixed with a bit of Aggaros Dunes. The captains belt was painted in the same way as the pouches and his robe was painted with Thousand Sons Blue, washed with Drakenhof Nightshade and then highlighted with Ahriman Blue.

All easy and simple steps, mostly drybrushing or using contrast paints. The edge highlighting on the pouches or seals really isn’t necessary, I was just looking for extra steps to do because I bored and we were in the middle of a power cut.

I enjoyed painting this little force and may well slowly expand it into a full army.

Any chapter name ideas in the comments!
