A Public Service Announcement Regarding the Instructions For The Wolverine Tank

It’s great that smaller companies are now producing hard plastic vehicles for sci-fi settings. The Wolverine Tank from Archon Studio is fantastic. It’s a brilliantly kit, highly detailed and chunky. However there is an issue with the instructions that can make your life building one an absolute nightmare (I guess mileage on your nightmares may vary, what constitutes a nightmare is subjective). Regardless, at this point:

The instructions want you to carry out the mad procedure of gluing the tracks the wheels, and gluing the headlights to the tracks. Then you’re supposed to:

Glue the inside wheels to the hull and then glue those big assemblies to the hull too. Under no circumstances should you do this.

Glue all the inside wheels to the hull, and then glue the side and outside wheel on, then glue on the tracks. Similar to GW tanks. Do not glue the headlights on!

This is because the headlights do not line up with the tracks. When you’re putting on the tops of the sides (I don’t know if there’s a technical term for those side bits tanks have), including the housing for the headlights, they won’t fit if the headlights are flush with the tracks. So glue the headlights into the housing when you put them on the sides.

It really is a fantastic vehicle besides those instructional issues. A worthy rival to the Sturnhammer from Mantic I’m using as a tank for Karn army in my Havok project. The Wolverine will be the proxy for the Nexus Hammer:

I’m looking forward to getting a coat of paint on my new Hammer!

If you were wondering about size comparisons, here’s a Rhino:

  1. It makes no sense to have the lights there anyway. Mud will just back up behind them and knock them off. I would suggest glueing them to the hull, or on top of the track guards, just like every other army in the world. 🙂

    Regards, Chris.
