The Best MDF Terrain?

MDF terrain is everywhere, and there are huge numbers of kits available all at various price points and complexities. But I’m a simple man, who enjoys simple things, and since my gaming spans multiple scales and genres, I’m always itching for something generic. Sure I could collect an authentic 40k battlefield but it would do me little good for Bolt Action and vice versa. So when I saw the following available on Amazon, I jumped at it:

The set is here. I don’t think I could get hold of the usual foam core or cork to produce this amount of terrain myself for less than £18.

It comes in a box all rubber banded together, separated into each building.

I put the entire set together with Mod Podge, and then set about adding texture, stippling on my usual goop. I battle damaged some of the walls and added some boards to some of the windows using coffee stirrers.

I sprayed the whole thing grey, and then put on a bunch of different watered down colours to vary the look.

I put some watered down black into the recesses and added a bone drybrush for contrast.

The whole set makes for a cramped 2’x2’ board, and seems most comfortable on a 4’x4’:

Scale wise it’s great for my main games:

I’ve even picked up a second set and am excited to play about with combining some of the buildings to make 3 or 4 storey ruins. I’m looking forward to some Stalingrad style games of Bolt Action!
