S.S.U.S.R – Story Battle Report: The Family VS The Greys

The cave was dark and wet, but it was the safest place that could be found. Mother eyed her children. They weren’t strong enough, weren’t ready for the coming fight, but she had no choice, the space men were closing in on them, and the Family had to take its stand. Mother looked to the cave’s entrance, and watched as the sun rose. Bushes nearby shook and dog dashed out, and darted towards the cave, towards Mother. It nuzzled into her and barked. She knew instantly what her pet had witnessed. A hunting party. She screamed and banged her fist on the cave’s wall, her motion was something her children understood, Father especially. He rose from the rock he was sat on, and grabbed the piece of sharpened girder he used as a weapon.

Mother (Gunslinger 25 Missing from the picture for some reason), Father (Monster 30), Big Sisters (Gunners 20) x2, Brothers (Warriors 5) x3, Dogs (Beasts 5) x2.

Overlord Vrex signalled his bodyguard, and the big grey lump approached. Vrex looked him up and down and sighed. “A brutish thing aren’t you?” Vrex asked. The Guard simply nodded. “I can see why my ancestors conquered yours” Vrex continued, “there’s too much extra meat on you.” The Guard nodded again. “Name?” Vrex asked.

“Threg-Uthur” the Guard answered.

“A brutish name for a brutish being. Keep close and watch how the Greys shall conquer this strange land, in the same way that we have conquered countless worlds.”

Overlord (Gunslinger 20), Royal Bodyguard (Monster 20), Scorpions (Berserker 10) x2, Soldiers (Soldier 10) x4.

The sky was now bright and Vrex spied a group of ruins ahead. He could see shapes amassing on the other side. “The dead” he muttered.

In an attempt to prove his worth, Threg-Uthur stepped forwards into the breach first and fired his laser pistol. The bolt of red energy struck a zombie and carved a gaping hole in her rotting flesh, the wound fizzed like bacon on a grill and an eye watering stench emanated and polluted the air.

The zombie attempted a screech in response, but all she could muster was a whimper. However barking could be heard in the distance, and the patter of feet on the cold dirt. In an instant two rabid dogs appeared and a giant blue skinned figure brandishing a rusted shard of steel. The pack thundered towards Threg and he readied his pistol. Vrex sighed, and with a swift hand motion sent his Scorpions forwards. The two huge bugs charged forwards their claws opening and snapping shut in anticipation. Threg tried to place a shot on one of the dogs, but then the two Scorpions appeared from behind, jumping to his aid. One grasped a snarling beast in its pincers and sliced the hellish hound open. The dog didn’t whimper, but continued growling and snapping its jaws until enough of its fermented innards had sluiced out onto the ground that it lost consciousness.

Then the second Scorpion lunged and tore the head off of the other dog. Threg raised his pistol at the blue giant and sent a bolt of energy piercing through the monstrosity’s chest. He grunted and spat fetid blood on the inside of its mask, the fluid dripped down his bulk as it roared in anger. The brute barrelled forwards and split the closest scorpion in half with a single swing of his blade.

Then a zombie let out a banshee screech from the ruins, focusing its sonic attack on the other Scorpion. The creature shook violently, it twisted and writhed in agony, and then burst sending streams of orange ichor outwards, coating Threg’s armour.

More zombies began emerging from the ruins, and Grey Soldiers pushed forwards, firing their laser guns trying to stem the screaming flow of death. Overlord Vrex stepped forwards, and seeing this as an opportunity too good to pass up, the blue monstrosity jolted towards the bodyguard.

The great propeller like blade swung in a wide arch and lopped Threg’s head clean off of his shoulders. His body fell limp, and exposed Vrex to the nightmarish attacker. He scrambled backwards through the ruins, but his pursuer followed, smashing through a concrete wall with ease.

Cornered, and afraid, the Overlord attempted to raise his pistol, but the great and terrifying weapon of the blue giant had already split him in half. His eyes sank and his face turned pale as neon pink blood soaked into the corrupted earth. At the sight of their fallen Overlord the remaining Greys turned and fled, a few of Mother’s children gave chase and brought a couple more Greys down. Their meat was stringy and bitter, but it was better than nothing.

Father roared triumphantly at his two kills, and under his mask smiled as the rest of the dead crawled over and devoured what was left of Threg and Vrex. Mother approached and spied the medals on the Overlord’s robe. She laughed, “A thousand worlds this one has conquered. But he couldn’t stand up to one of my Husbands.” She kissed Father on his mask and they embraced. It had been a swift victory, but a hollow one as the aliens could not be reanimated. Mother needed humans to grow her horde. It was in that moment another of her dogs returned to her, nuzzled in and barked. “Dragon Temple nearby” she smiled.
