Perpetually Painting Partisans Part 2

First part here… from 6 Months ago…

I had been rather silly, having finished the toughest bit of any Bolt Action force – painting the bulk of the infantry. I seemingly forgot I had made any progress with my Partisans, and as yet they have not made it to the table (very silly me). I found them in the grotto of wargaming that is my hobby room, sharing a drawer with my equally neglected Italian Army.

So over the past couple of weeks, I have at about finishing them off.

I started out with the weapons teams, consisting of an anti tank gun, mortar and MG. All from Irregular because they’re a darn sight cheaper than Warlord, and I have a deep and enduring love for Irregular Minis.

I then turned some of my contrasted cops into Partisans:

This cop squad is an oddity, the legs, bodies and most of the arms are Irregular, but then I chopped the heads and some of the arms off and swapped them with Wargames Atlantic bits, to make a useable squad for Bolt Action. Here they are in their original incarnation:

I’m sure the blue is a relevant colour scheme for some area of Europe in the 1940s… I did a lot of googling and saw mostly black or very dark blue, the caps seemed to be a necessary switch, I didn’t see many, if any police in Europe wearing the pith style helmets.

Then I of course needed my veteran squad, and taking advantage of Irregular’s VBCW range, I picked up a Football Team:

I’ll let you debate the historical accuracy of such a thing in the comments. You can’t prove it didn’t happen though… It could be a good premise for an action movie, a group of WW1 veterans form a Football Team as a support group for shell shock, they then witness the rise of the Nazis in Germany, and join a group of Partisans with the outbreak of WW2. They fight a few battles and lose, and finally once surrounded don their football kits to make a heroic last stand against the German invaders before being rescued at the last minute by some Allied forces arriving. ‘The Team With No Name’ Coming to a cinema near you in 2027, starring Colin Firth, Kenneth Branagh, Liam Neeson and Gary Oldman.

So here’s the lot:

With a couple of 3D printed trucks my mate produced for me, in a generic tan colour so they can fit into multiple forces.

I’ve got to add a few more teams to complete the collection – snipers, flamethrowers and anti tank. I’m excited about the prospect of a Bazooka wielding Babushka… ‘Bazooshka’ coming to cinemas in 2029 starring Judi Dench.

  1. I’d pay good money to see those movies 🤣
I’m sure the football team would count as a nearly confirmed historical fact!
