Do kids Magnetic Tiles make the best Wargames Terrain?

Am I mad? Maybe… is this possible? That remains to be seen.

I’m not sure where this idea originated from, but while looking around on Amazon for various toys, I’ve seen these magnetic tile sets many times. I’ve often wondered if they’d be any good. And size wise they’ll be great for 28mm+ scale gaming, mostly my new Dead Wars project and Deathzap.

The set I bought cost £28 and provides enough terrain to densely cover a 2’ x 2’ board. not only is it going to be great for a sci-fi city setting, but it would easily make a great spaceship interior too.

Hopefully I’ll be able to make them workable. After a bit of sanding and texture goop, I think I have a sturdy paintable surface.

Needless to say some plastics just won’t play ball, hopefully this isn’t one of them, because if I can make this work I can bin a huge amount of terrain for a fully modular set that takes up the space of a shoebox (with room to spare). I’ll report back once done, hopefully with a video tutorial.

I’m also still kitbashing endlessly:

Wargames Atlantic’s Space Nam arms fit great on their Satyrs (with a little cutting).

Working through some kitbashing has also enabled me to clip off a good number of sprues, cleaning up the desk quite a bit (the pile I had was seriously insane). I may need to insist on a new policy, that any time I buy a kit, I clip all the spare parts off at least 1 more sprue than I’ve just bought.

A bit of a shorter post this time, hopefully leading into another video, these magnetic tiles really could be a wargaming game changer for me!
