So a little more play-testing this evening, changes from the previous edition of the rules (last nights rules to be exact) include two slight tweaks to make combat more bloody (yum yum!) and also there have been some tweaks to objectives.
Below you can see deployment, T-Rex, Giganotosaurus, Utahraptor and Allosaurus, take on Stegosaurus, Spinosaurus, Triceratops and Styracosaurus. ‘Domination’ (board control) and ‘Destruction’ (wipe out half the opposing force) are our two overall objectives. ‘Call of the young’ is the unique objective for the mostly herbivores side, and ‘Escape’ is the unique objective for the carnivores, they need to get that Utahraptor off of the board. The twist this game is ‘Lavaflow’ at the end of each turn those red pawns (representing the lava) will advance D6″ across the board, any Dinos caught in the lava are immediately killed.
Turn 1 and both sides advance. I thought the Herbivores side may have an issue with mobility at this point, they’re all pretty sluggish dinosaurs.
But it didn’t affect their fighting ability too much as the Triceratops tosses the Giganotosaurus to one side.
Allowing Styracosaurus to charge in and crush his head, killing Giganotosaurus instantly.
Below you can see Utahraptor attempting to take a chunk out of Triceratops in the centre, but failing to accomplish anything. T-Rex also moves in but can’t close the distance.
Utahraptor then makes his escape speeding past Spinosaurus.
T-Rex then finds himself in a rough spot, but manages to protect himself against attacks from all sides.
The lava slowly creeps up on the fight in the centre…
Spinosaurus hurls T-Rex over Triceratops, his body luckily only grazing the white hot lava.
The battered T-Rex gets back to his feet and immediately takes a chunk out of Triceratops.
Despite his best efforts however, the lava creeps up and T-Rex is killed.
The final turn saw the Carnivores win the initiative and after spending all their ferocity Allosaurus managed to bring down Stegosaurus with a flurry of claws and fangs, winning the game for the Carnivores 3 objective points to 2.
