Discount Burma Bunker Busting

Emerging from the hobby sofa are some discount Chinese Nationalists. These Matchbox Afrikacorps copies… made in China now somewhat ironically masquerading as the German equipped Chinese Nationalists in Burma.

I decided to face them off against the Japanese from the previous post with some fastplay WW2 skirmish rules I cooked up.

I set the Japanese the challenge of taking hold of the toy block bunker below… a mad dash across mostly open ground directly into Machine Gun fire… what could go wrong?

The Japanese got off to a good start with one of their Riflemen hurling a grenade into the bunker and supressing the Machine Gunner. I guess that’s why my toyblock bunker should have had a roof on it, it makes it harder to chuck grenades in then…

The Chinese made it into a good defensive position on one side as the Japanese pushed forwards, but the Chinese had already lost a couple to Japanese pot shots.

The Japanese made more progress up on the Chinese position making good use of cover, and being pretty successful in supressing several of the Chinese including that Machine Gun, and without the ability to lay down the fire they needed in defence the Chinese looked to be in a precarious position.

Fixing bayonets the Japanese charged the Chinese position. It’s always a good idea to attack with less men than the well protected enemy has right?

Amazingly the Japanese rolled incredibly well, not losing a single man and wiping out the Nationalists. The two guys at the back seemed to have forgotten how rifles work anyway so it’s a good idea to make them use them as clubs.

Then a single Rifleman, spurred on by the success of his commrades charged the Machine Gun position.

Killed the Officer.

Then the Machine Gunner.

And ended the battle. A resounding defeat for the Chinese who were wiped out entirely, the Japanese on the otherhand only lost two men to a rather lacklustre Chinese defence.
