The Second Global War Campaign – Story Battle Report: Close Call

Prime Darrik June

The young Prime Darrik June pulled his pistol from its holster and examined it closely.

“You won’t need that” spat Chief Protector Cassil.

“Because you’ve got me?” smirked the Prime sarcastically.

“No Prime” replied Cassil, “because we’re on parade and if they want to take you out it’ll be from afar, I’d choose a Cambarian Stalker Rifle myself, messy but effective.”

The Prime shivered and Cassil let a smile crack across his craggy and aging face.

“I don’t see the point in this parade” decried the Prime swiftly shifting the subject, “It’s a waste of money.”

“Surely a politician understands the importance of appearances?”

“I understand, but I’ve got a bigger picture in mind. We can parade our best men up and down the streets all day, but we need battlefield results. Queen Ora and her advisers aren’t concerned about our parades. The South Camerians had regular parades until the Northerners burned down their homes.” The Prime returned to examining his pistol.

“I was there” said Cassil.

“Where?”

“I was in Bazril when it fell. Jendari Ranger Advance Force. Obviously we let the Northerners do the heavy lifting. We were just support, special ops, we weren’t there officially.”

“You liberated Bazril?”

The old man laughed, “Liberated is a strange way of putting it. I remember running down this bombed out street, Blues scattered all over the floor, bleeding out, ballistic warfare is brutal business, and there was this young woman, beautiful, stood in the middle of all of it. I locked eyes with her as I ran past. She had these haunting green eyes. I looked back and saw a Northerner run her through with his bayonet.”

Minister Carvo Skul

Carvo sat in the opulent meeting room of Queen Ora’s Winter Palace. He shuffled uncomfortably in the high backed golden chair “Korisaar Craftsmanship my sore arse” he muttered and then chuckled to himself.

“Novisaar actually” the elderly Queen responded as she approached her Minister from the darkness of another room.

“Should we go through with it my Lady?” the Minister begged.

“Tis a tragedy for one so young” she said and then paused for a moment, looking up at her mother’s portrait. “Queen Elena was one for warfare, I’m afraid I am not. Prime Coldan and I pursued peace no matter the cost.”

“Their already calling this ‘The Third Age of Fire’, maybe war is something you will have to get used to.”

“That may be, but it will be war on my terms.”

The Assassin

The young woman looked up at the Prime with fake adoration across her face. She didn’t really know who he was, or why the offer was so high. The man in the window above the market across the street waved his Jendari Collective flag. She had only been in the Xolar system for a few months. Her family had fled the Solar System millenia ago, their reasons had decomposed into myth. Feet on solid ground, natural gravity felt strange to her. She readied the Spike under her coat, it was a modified Davian Death Lance. Few Xolar energy shields would withstand it. He seemed too young. She pondered how his and her lives, lives of comparatively few decisions had led them both to this moment. She watched the windows above the market across the street, the man was gone. She breathed deeply, stepped away from the adoring crowd and disappeared into the darkness of a nearby alley way.

The amasses forces of the Rin Empire begin their push to force the Harkovians out of Goza.
The fighting is fierce and many fall.
But the Empire’s advance is relentless.
However in the end the newly acquired Harkovian Beam Tanks cut down the Rin defenders.

With Harkovian forces managing to hold on to Goza Haerkalia now move on Khef. The goal here is to create a second front and split the Jendari defenders.

House Baronor’s biggest hope at this moment is that a United Cameria will take too long to amass their own invasion force to strike at Haerkalia, Novisaar or Combroth.

You might notice I’m using those smaller scale figures again, this is because I wanted to try out some more rules based on my old fantasy Armythica project. I’ve found with Deathzap so far I’ve either had quick and dirty rules or ones that get bogged down in details. I’m hoping for something in between that plays quickly and is crunchy enough for me to think about stats and maths all day.
