Easy Tabletop Hominids

So I’ve had a bag of crappy army men I’ve been looking to do something with for a while. I’ve also wanted a game about the various hominid cryptids, Sasquatch, Yeti and my personal favourite the Skunk Ape.

Picking out some of the open poses I cut off the guns and gave them a wash.

The next step was to cover the figures in static grass. Since the figures are fairly flat, I found it was easiest doing one side with white glue and grass first, letting that dry, and then flipping the figures over and doing the other.

I mounted them on MDF circles, and before I got to painting, I covered the figures in a layer of white glue. The goal there was to have a matted fur effect.

After a few failed glowing eye effect attempts, I decided to create Milliput masks. Before that however, I sprayed the figures black and then brown at a 45 degree angle for the Sasquatches and white for the Yetis. The Milliput I have is white and as I said at this point I’d already painted the fur.

I textured the masks by putting scratches and gashes in with a cocktail stick, added a mottled texture using a toothbrush, poked eye holes, and then painted on the designs.

The white on the masks is just the colour of the Milliput. I covered the masks in Aggaros Dunes Contrast paint, and wiped off the centre of the mask quickly with my finger.

Easy hominids done!
