My bank holiday weekend of hobbying was hampered somewhat by a rather nasty cold. I managed very little in terms of painting or playing, but I did do a lot of napping.
But desperate to do something, I dosed myself up on cold and flu capsules and hit the table with some Italeri figures. Roughly 160 in total… so not exactly a small fight!

I could do with more other things as I’ve almost entirely got rifle armed infantry (especially for the Brits), but I guess that’s is the risk when you buy boxes of 1/72 figures. If you go Napoleonic or Colonial they’ll almost entirely be musket/rifle armed. Maybe two boxes a side would be more interesting, with something extra, like a tank, elephant or gun battery.

I added a house rule to the rules I posted last time, that each time a movement phase came up for a unit already in melee combat they immediately fought a bout of melee. I could probably add in a rule about them retreating from melee instead with the opposing side getting some free attacks as they flee.

Each box of Italeri figures often comes with little extra guys that aren’t so easily included within the rules, banner bearers, bagpipe players, ammo carriers, I think I’ll need to cook up some rules to get those guys properly involved. Influencing morale checks, maybe musicians can add bonus movement, ammo carriers allow for shooting re-rolls.

Another house rule that felt right was I gave cavalry two ‘wounds’ each. Instead of fiddling around with stray horses, or riders on foot. It makes them much more threatening, especially in melee.

After 5ish turns I gave the battle to the white force (the Brits) as they had more folks standing. The up and at ‘em sort of scenario is not the most exciting so it’s always a good idea to limit your turns if that’s the direction you’re headed in.
I’ll report back after further developments and once the gunk in my head has cleared. I’ll need to put together some transport rules too, as I’ll definitely need to deploy some medieval knights in a half track…
Oh yes, Medieval knights in a half track, it has to be done 🙂
Hope the cold clears
