As sort of mentioned previously, I’m planning on making terrain and a gaming surface for my Ghost Legions project that differs from the table I use for Deathzap and the odd game of Bolt Action.
I imagine the underworld is a bit ‘chunky’, where parts of the overworld or projections of it have been torn apart and distributed randomly across the landscape. So you may have part of a WW2 bunker fused with an Ancient Greek temple, or a Victorian cottage in the middle of a Roman fort. It might even be fun to grab multiple iconic buildings from battles like La Haye Sainte or the Reichstag and plonk them on the same table.
To this end, I remembered some Dapol kits I’d picked up ages ago, a couple of houses, a cottage and a pub. I can’t really remember why I bought these initially, but I think it was to use for a previous version of Ghost Legions.
While imagining the absolute horrors that must exist within the underworld (and loving The Blob, and The Thing (I’d add The Stuff but that film is a bit poo)) I pumped some expanding foam into and into the buildings and then plonked them on a sheet of polystyrene.

Knowing the polystyrene would be weak, and melt if I sprayed it, I made a mixture of artists sand texture paste, filler and paint to give everything texture, protection and to make the polystyrene far more durable.
Painting was a challenge, as there were a lot of parts I couldn’t get to. But any parts like that thankfully aren’t that noticeable.

I did a lot of back and forth, washes, glazing, stippling and drybrushing all with very cheap acrylic paints.

After a while I had something that looked suitably disgusting.

I did use a little bit of Citadel’s Contrast Fleshtearer’s Red for the blood effects.
‘Beauty’ Shots

I’ll also have to attack my local discount shops now Halloween stuff has started appearing. A big forest of bones is a classic. A face of Mars style monument using a cheap mask maybe?
I am planning on putting more on Meat Town’s bases, but I want them to match whatever surface I end up with, so I figured I’d do that all at the same time.
They work really well. Especially the wet looking ooze coming out of doors and windows. And the blood coming out of the pores is similarly effective.👍
It looks fabulous. I especially like the metallic green on the building.
Seriously impressive!
Eeeeewwww… nice! This reminds me of one of the Ravenor books from Black Library, when one of the characters becomes possessed by a daemon and turns into an ever-expanding, all-encompassing mound of Nurgly flesh – until he gets blown up. Looks fantastic, and so easy!
Meaty!
Great idea it definitely changes the atmosphere in the pics
