Irregular Miniatures 15mm ACW

I recently picked up a 15mm Skirmish Pack from Irregular (if the title hadn’t given it away) and have been slowly working my way through painting it. The pack includes 10 union infantry and two cavalry, an equal group of confederates, two trees, a house, a farmer, the farmer’s wife, some livestock and the farm […]

Toysoldierholics Anonymous

My names Chris and I’m a toysoldierholic. Popped into the local discount shop on the way home from church today, and they had in some great looking bags of cheap figures… so naturally I bought four… The first bag had green Airfix Afrika Korps copies in and a few Matchbox Germans. The second was mostly […]

Irregular Miniatures – ‘Mobile Suits’

Irregular Miniatures has some fun corners to explore, and one such place is their 6mm sci-fi range, here halfway down the page you’ll find their ‘Mobile Suits’ section containing one product for £13.20 a set of four robots and rules to use with them. The robots have two shoulder pegs to attach arms to and […]

Deathzap Skirmish: A Fistful of Selenoids

Another Deathzap Skirmish outing on a neon green planet saw the victorious Jendari Tiger squad from my last game take on a few Selenoids, both forces came in at 150 points exactly. The Selenoids made a good start taking down the Jendari Ceratosaurus before it could cause any problems. But unfortunately one Selenoid fell to […]

Simple Satisfying Games

There’s often an urge to roll dice and see events unfold, to wonder how things might have been different had fortune swung the other way and what might have been actively done better to change the outcome. To scratch this itch I played a 150 point game of Deathzap Skirmish on a rather small board […]

Everybody Do The Dinosaur

I was up for some simple gaming last night, so I grabbed some wooden discs I had to hand, a tin of green spray paint, superglue and eight small dinosaur figures and produced what you can see above. The dinosaurs effectively come pre-painted, all that would be required is picking out eyes, claws, teeth and […]

More ‘Statless’ Gaming

I’ve been flitting somewhat between projects of late. A recent acquisition from Irregular Miniatures included some of their fantasy figures: Goblins and Dark Elf Witches above, but I’ve got something from every race present to work my way through painting. I’d considered delving into an existing fantasy skirmish system, but alas once again I am […]

Kallistra’s Offering

Another package arrived today and contained Kallistra’s ‘Sci-Fi’ figures, although it’s certainly sci-fi of the post apocalyptic persuasion, they are on sale here. For £10.50 you get 10 figures all of which are well sculpted with good, clean detail (I suspect Mark Copplestone had his hand in making these). I’m looking forward to getting these […]

Deathgangs

So I had some post apocalyptic solo fun on the bedroom floor this morning using the 8 of the Miniatures that arrived yesterday and that I have already painted up! Gang 1 consisted of (from left to right) Jacko, Leatherface, Doc and Jason. Gang 2 consisted of Shotty, Dagz, Fingers and Chainz. Initially I tried […]

Warrior Miniatures Post Apocalyptic Figures

A rather heavy box arrived today. A bit of an impulse purchase a few days ago had arrived, one of every pack from Warrior Miniatures’ ‘Monsters, Mutants and Gangs’ range. The whole lot came to around £30, which for 25 28mm metal figures is a steal, you would normally be looking at £45 to £60 […]

The Outpost – Game Report

The following skirmish was an attempt at what I’m calling Advanced Deathzap, not that it’s particularly complicated, more that it adds in that personality that I’ve wanted to get into my games for a while, hopefully going forwards forces should have a less generic feel. I set up a small gaming area in the corner […]

In The Forest of the Night – Game Report

“A distress beacon has been activated Sir” reported Sergeant Zen Haggar of the Gnossian Advance Force. Captain Korthos Caine eyed his young protégée. “It could be misdirection, a trap even” he responded. Zen shuffled awkwardly, and checked the charge on his beam rifle. “I don’t think so Sir… fourth called in the all clear on […]

A bedroom floor, socks and airfix figures

Fancy terrain and well painted figures aside, you can still have fun rolling dice and moving little men around. It ain’t pretty, smells kinda funky, but it does give me an appreciation for 20th century tactics, plus there’s a certain nostalgia in it for me. At this point I called the German retreat, no use […]

That Eclectic Miniatures Heroscape Ripoff Game

So I’ve been painting a lot lately, and haven’t been playing much, even solo. So I thought I’d play a quick game with those 15mm figures I picked up from Irregular a few weeks back. Hopefully you’re not too bothered by historical inaccuracy in your games although funnily enough only one of the units here […]

Giants!

The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them; the same were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown. Genesis 6:4 Bible scholars may debate the meaning of this […]

Elamites

So I finished painting my Elamite warband this morning. Again, as with the Abramites from my previous post, there is a lot of artistic license with these figures. The reason being that much of the reference images you may see online for Elamites or in Osprey books are a good few hundred years later than […]

Bible Bashers: Biblical Skirmish Wargaming

‘Biblical skirmish wargaming’ is not a phrase you often hear thrown around. In fact if you put it into google as I did recently the top result I received was a blog with a single post made by me some years ago. http://bible-bashers.blogspot.com/?m=1 In reference to that post on that dusty old blog I can’t […]

Slaves To Darkness Part 4… How to paint Rust

My latest unit counts as any 25mm based chaos unit if people are picky, or counts as literally any chaos infantry unit. Primarily for me they’ll be marauders, plague bearers or another unit of warriors. If you like converting your own stuff you can save yourself some dosh by having units that can ‘counts as’ […]

An Eclectic 15mm Miniatures Selection

A package arrived in the post today from Irregular Miniatures. One of my favourite Miniatures sites to browse, but I’ve rarely purchased anything due to the fact that it was one of those sites you had to send an email list of the bits you wanted to and wait for the PayPal invoice in a […]

Slaves to Darkness

I didn’t do much on the plague tower this weekend as I was striving forward with the army to go with it. My basic warrior is based on a chaos space marine legs, torso and arms with a basic head and weapons swap and leaving the backpack off. My Chaos Sorcerer Lord is based on […]

Grid of Death – Battle Report

The Tribeship Torvax is home to the Bloodline Tribe of Solar Raiders, one of the largest among the SolRad fleets it harbours impressive hab-domes, rich, but artificial jungles fill the domes in order to create a self sustaining breathable atmosphere on the ship. A small invasion force of Vel scout the Torvax after infiltrating it […]

A Step in the Gridded Direction

Today’s project was to start work on a gridded gaming surface that I can use while my gaming space is at a minimum. I picked up two cork notice boards that were 30x40cms, painted them green and put a 5x5cm grid on both with a permanent marker. I’m cooking up rules in my head, and […]

The Battle For The Pudding – Battle Report

‘The Pudding War’ was a small and short lived conflict between the nations of Caerdonia and Su Khan, and was fought entirely within the Boskova Mountain range on the border between the two countries in the year 1237AC. To put that in perspective the events of my games of Deathzap take place around 2000AC. Su […]

The First Encounter – A Super Hero Battle Report

An explosion erupted in down town Ultra City, Renegade the masked madman, used one of his patented Rene-Grenades to take out former Astronaut turned super hero Astro-Man and humanities greatest protector the Golden Phoenix. Then as the evil Nightmare attempted to subdue Red Vector from behind, Comet The Space Boy was fried by Zzap’s electric […]

Poundland’s Super Heroes

The following post was inspired by a post on the Man of Tin Blog: https://manoftinblog.wordpress.com/2018/11/17/poundland-super-heroes-say-farewell-to-stan-lee-rip/ Poundland are currently selling lego-ish mini figures in sets of 4. Today I purchased two sets, one labelled Super Heroes and another Spacemen and Aliens (I think… I’ve thrown away the boxes at this point). I swapped heads and hands […]
