In my last post I played out a quick ambush battle report featuring a couple of armoured cars.
The cars themselves came from a cheap set of soldiers and vehicles:

I wanted to use the cars in my ambush scenario, but was concerned that paint wouldn’t stick to them. It’s seemed to be that particularly glossy cheap stuff. So before starting I sanded both cars, but also realising that they were already a military green I didn’t worry about priming them the correct colour.
I ran a black sharpie around all the recesses of the vehicles, giving them a cartoony look and then splattered them with black paint, wiping off as much as I could before it dried.
I finished up with a little light green stippling and edge highlighting, and painted the headlights with silver and then a clear red.
They make a welcome addition to my small pool of Deathzap vehicles.
the scale is a pain with 1/72. I’m just putting together a zombie apocalypse game and it’s my first in this scale. I picked up some lovely, detailed military vehicles on eBay, but looking for cars, etc. I’ll have to go 1/64. I salivate at some of the construction vehicles available. imagine the impact of a steam roller!
I just use cheap toy cars, although agreed it is hard to find ‘normal’ looking ones.
the lengths we go to for our hobby! I think there will be scope for blackened and rusty wrecks with roofs and panels strategically dented so scale may be less apparent. I’ve found Toptoy, an Italian company, I think who do 1/72. I shall investigate… Keep up the good work!
They look like the sort of design that a VAB/Volkswagen merged company might come up with. Nice work! 🙂
