Rescue the Cambarian

On the northern coast of Haerkalia a Cambarian Stalker trapped behind enemy lines with key intelligence and needs pulling out. A small force of Jendari Tigers is teleported to the area, but a similar sized force of House Guards responds hoping to eliminate the escaping Stalker.

In this scenario each time the Tigers make it to a group of trees they can search them, on a D6 roll of 6 they’ll find the Stalker, on anything else they don’t. If the Stalker isn’t found until the last group of trees it is assumed he’ll be there. The Tigers then need to get the Stalker off of their starting board edge. The Guards need to kill the Stalker, or wipe out the Tigers before they find the Stalker.

The Tigers and Guards will hit on a D8 and save on a D6. The Stalker once found will hit and save on a D12.

At this point in writing, just before beginning, I thought maybe the Guards needed some help especially if the Tigers find the Stalker early on, so I added 7 Solar Raiders to bulk out their forces a little. They’ll hit and save like everyone else.

It’s controversial for either side in the war to utilise Solar Raiders as they still use ballistic weaponry which was outlawed under the Jendari Convention.

After round 1’s Movement

I noticed a plan forming for House Baronor at this point, the Tigers had essentially claimed 3 of the four lots of trees, since they were close to their deployment, and I knew there was no way the Guards were going to take them back. So I figured their best bet was to cut off the Tigers from the remaining four by setting up a defensive line across the centre. Hopefully with the Tigers having to split their forces up to search the trees the Guards could engage smaller groups of Tigers one at a time and use their weight of numbers to win.

At the end of round 1 both sides had taken a single casualty and the Tigers had failed to find the Stalker in two sets of trees.

Fearing they’ll be slowed too much by playing cautiously, the Tigers are forced to make daring dashes across open ground.

The Tigers fared fairly well in the following shooting phase and despite their daring moves suffered less casualties than the Guards.

I then decided to have an 8 hour break and went to work.

Movement in round three saw everyone bottlenecked between the trees, and this time round the dice went in House Baronor’s favour with several Tigers falling to fire, and only a handful of Guards.

At this point the Tigers were basically exhausted having suffered 13 casualties to the Guards (and Raiders) 8. I didn’t know any to call it quits just yet, since the Tigers had been somewhat unlucky and I rolled to see where the Stalker was.

And he emerged from the bushes, flanked by enemies, maybe just within reach?

The Tigers moved first and the Stalker made a mad dash across the field in front of him. Tigers took up whatever positions they could to defend as Guards surges forwards in pursuit!

You can see the Stalker’s big hat sticking up behind the stone wall.

Hoping the Stalker’s shields could shrug off enough enemy fire was in vain. After only three accurate shots he went down (which I suppose is statistically fine, making 4+ saves on a D12).

This loss is somewhat significant for the Jendari Collective, not being fully defeated in their attempted invasion of Haerkalia had seen them pushed back to Ariban the capital city of Khef, and should the city fall, Khef will also fall to House Baronor.

Marking the campaign map up as best I can on my phone, you can see we’ve doubled back now and then gone up to the Battle of Ariban.
