Wartomata Brawl – Hanro Hurricanes VS Gazdan Ghosts

Ziff: Welcome Conscripts to Warsport! I’m your host Ziff Ziggz and today in the box with me is the decorated Warsport hero, the Butcher of Blood Bay, the top killer 10 years running… Gunter Hek formerly of the Vesh Vipers.

Gunter: Thank you for the warm welcome.

Ziff: Today we’re keeping a close eye on the south as we have two platoons of Wartomata about to clash, the Hanro Hurricanes from Tennria, representing the Legion are taking on the Gazdan Ghosts from Vennik, representing the League.

Ziff: Looking at the Hurricanes first, we’ve got Lieutenant Yan Xane carrying the beam sword, Oryn Nos with the frag-maul and Tera Finn with the meteor. What can you tell me about this team Gunter?

Gunter: The Hurricanes have been one of the best Legion teams for centuries, and they played a key role in A.L.L operation during the Oltra War. Yan brings a huge amount of experience to the team, but Tera and Oryn are new to Wartomata, it’s a gamble.

Ziff: They’re not new to Warsport, both Tera and Oryn coming from Tanksport, are Wartomata all that different?

Gunter: In my day we demanded new Wartomata pilots came from Swordsport. Sure tanks teach you to shoot, but half of the time Wartomata get up close and personal.

Ziff: Let’s have a look at the Ghosts. Same equipment as the Hurricanes. Lieutenant Urrik Zur with the sword, Gorvid Trask with the meteor and Inkrid Blitz with the frag-maul. What was your preferred weapon?

Gunter: The meteor with its ability to hit hard was my choice. Swords are good, but there wouldn’t be any frag-mauls in my team. They’re just for show.

Ziff: Some fireworks for the crowds to enjoy?

Gunter: Frag-mauls are great against infantry, or if you want to clear a building in one strike. They’re limited against other Wartomata.

Ziff: I suppose we should address the rippersaur in the room too, the pilots are now inside the Wartomata?

Gunter: Initially they had synth brains, but after the Great Betrayal we started piloting them ourselves. It was easier to lobotomise the brain and hook it up for remote control than put a full cockpit inside the Wartomata. The younger fighters though prefer the extra milliseconds they get from direct control. When I fought, pilots were few and far between, and the kit was so specialised the risk of losing both the Wartomata and the pilot in one go didn’t make sense.

Ziff: Hopefully the ejector seats are fully functional today.

Ziff: Here’s what they’ll be fighting over, a monument to the death goddess Malorad. The more monuments you hold the more she helps you fight right?

Gunter: That’s the idea. Don’t scoff too much Ziff, us warriors are very superstitious.

Ziff: Plus, religion aside, monuments mean points, and points can score you technical victories.

Ziff: The action’s heating up now as both sides are closing in on the monument. Oryn takes the first shot, his eye beam just missing Gorvid as he dashes towards the big skull.

Ziff: Yan makes the next move and toasts Urrik! Can the Ghosts recover from losing their Lieutenant so early on?

Ziff: Inkrid hits Tera hard, the beam doesn’t down her, but I think we saw the telltale energy burst of fried shields!

Gunter: If Tera isn’t quick to respond, without shields she’s a sitting duck!

Ziff: Ouch! Gorvid follows up with another big hit and Tera goes down! Two on two now, the Ghosts might pull this back!

Ziff: Inkrid keeps the momentum going, rushing Oryn and striking him out with her frag-maul! Ghosts ahead two to one!

Gunter: Yeah, but watch out for Yan!

Ziff: You’re right, Yan replies in a big way, using his beam cannon to burn Gorvid to the ground!

Ziff: He then closes with Inkrid and after a little back and forth, he brings her down too!

Gunter: I told you Yan was the one to look out for!

Ziff: That’s a big win for the Hurricanes, and pushes the Legions VPs over 100 for the sector, the League are forced to retreat, that’s a big upset in the south, can they recover?

Gunter: Always!

Ziff: Stay tuned for Swordsport up next! Can the Garronir Gravediggers redeem themselves from their poor performance in the playoffs?
