With the rules sort of there, and having come to the end of building and painting 24 Wrestlers (and a Referee). I’m now staring down the barrel of actually having to play this all out. Which got me thinking… how do wrestling federations actually run?

My limited experience of watching wrestling as a kid, has led me to believe they don’t actually function like regular sporting leagues. They tend to follow story lines.

I’ve had a similar problem with imagining my own Deathzap Sci-fi universe. In creating your own universe, do you go for what you think is plausible, or do you go for what you think is fun, or do you go for the current social commentary angle?

So do I imagine my Mutant Wrestling Federation is actually happening for real (in its own strange universe), or do I treat it like real professional wrestling… of course I’m leaning towards real, but I still want the over the top storylines and characters that couldn’t possibly be real, but we are wrestling with mutants after all.
I think a league would be too much. 24 wrestlers, each wrestling each other, likely twice (to be fair), would be 552 matches (I think my maths is correct there). Though a league would give me the best stats, and make for a fun spreadsheet, though man does not live on fun spreadsheets alone.

A tournament is probably the most sensible, and I could throw in additional matches, or a points system for wrestlers knocked out to determine who falls where in the overall rankings.

Of course a single Royal Rumble could clear it all up in a single huge match, however you’re really putting all your eggs in one extremely random basket there.

Though 24 Wrestlers isn’t exactly the easiest number to play out a tournament with. I can have a group stage that results in 16 wrestlers going through, then the tournament can flow easily, or do I need to add 8 more and get that number up to 32… a perfect number for a tournament? I really should have stopped at 16.

So do I add 8 more wrestlers to the proceedings before kicking things off in earnest? Maybe I’ll sleep on it.
A few minis I’d definitely like to add though are female wrestlers, though the gender of some of my current roster is probably up for debate, and some managers, and probably that big bad commissioner who sets up unfair matches for your favourite heroes.
