Elves Vs Dark Dwarves Vs Me Vs Age of Sigmar

I couldn’t finish painting those Elves and not have a battle now could I? Originally this little Fantasy project was going to use and abuse Tony Bath’s Ancients rules from Donald Featherstone’s War Games. However having far too much confidence in my own ability to write rules I decided I’d take this opportunity to ‘fix’ […]

Not So Vintage Toy Soldiers

Cameria had always been a divided nation, ever since the first settlers arrived the North and South were two distinct colonies, peoples, cultures. However after a few bad years of mining the Camerian Council decided to send forces out to take resources from other weaker nations. Ngoai just north of Cameria across the Amenic Sea […]

A Ramble on Rules and Deathzap

I took the opportunity this morning after waking up rather early to play the next game in my Deathzap campaign on Oltra the moon of the planet Kannis. Since the game didn’t include the Legion of Kharthion I figured it would be a good opportunity to iron out and tweak parts of the rules that […]

Tiny Wars – Fantasy Skirmish The Rules

BUILDING A FORCE Each force begins with a Leader; this figure is always a hero and costs 0 points. Then the player has 5 points to recruit the rest of their force. Heroes cost 3 points, sergeants 2 and troops 1. Each recruited figure and the leader is also assigned a battlefield role. They can […]

Deathzap 2 Play Testing and Campaigns

Men of the League of Zandor were seen today engagning in a bloody firefight with Mortan’s Men on the edge of District Anzo in En Sikkar the capital colony city on Kannis’ moon Oltra. The fighting was brutal and swift, as Zandor utilised their advanced weaponry and shield technology to devastating effect. Mortan’s Men suffered […]

Irregular Miniatures 2mm Yobbo Army

The Mrs and I are self isolating because of a cough. We managed two days back at work before another 14 day holiday. Hope you’re all keeping safe given the circumstances! I should get a lot of hobbying done since there is not much else to do. I dived (dove?) in this morning on my […]

Mechstorm

A while back I wondered what a Donald Featherstone Mech Combat ruleset would look like. I give you Mechstorm. The smaller Mechs are painted and based pieces from Risk 2210AD, the larger mechs and flyers are from EM4 (you probably already recognised them). For the rules the smallest of the Risk Mechs I named ‘Pups’, […]

15mm Sci Fi Rules Ideas

Here’s a little bit of fun I think has legs! While I don’t have much if any suitable terrain for 15mm figures a stripped down Darkfell board will suffice for some play testing. Here’s a little look at my current thinking on how a sci-fi, or other game could be played. Each unit has a […]

Darkfell

Merry Boxing Day! He’s is the report for a small game I played out this morning for some homebrew rules I’m calling ‘Darkfell’, I wanted something quick and simple that gave me that Mordheim feel. I used the ‘Markup’ function on my phone to put the text on to the pictures as I played, so […]

Irregular Miniatures 2mm Aliens

I finally got round to painting half of my 2mm sci-fi battle pack from Irregular Miniatures which I have based up for ‘Hell On The Margin’ the ruleset you get in the pack. Here’s everything. Hell On The Margin tells you to base things on 50mm x 30mm, although they recommend basing in threes a […]

The Small and Mysterious Box (Tiny Tostig)

I’ve been rather overloaded with hobby projects of late, having recently picked up three more: Chaos Orcs for Age Of Sigmar, 10mm Mass Battle Fantasy and 2mm Sci Fi, the last two were as a result of having won Irregular Miniatures most recent painting competition with my Samurai figure: After basing my new 10mm Fantasy […]

Ghost Legions – Anubis vs Chernobog

Two gods of the Underworld amass their forces infront of the Dark Obelisk in the hope of obtaining power over the Netherworld. Anubis brings three units of Roman Legionnaires, a unit of Fallschirmjager and a unit of Afrika Korps. Chernobog The Black God brings three units of French Foreign Legion, a unit of Vikings and […]

Ghost Legions

Let’s categorise this under ‘bizarre’. So every once in a while I find myself picking up a box of 1/72 plastic figures, Airfix, Italeri, Hat, the usual culprits, and I seem to have amassed a rather large collection over the years. This probably stems from an unhealthy obsession as a child for our little plastic […]

Super Simple Heroes

Projects abound of late, and with Armies on Parade but one week away surely I’d be painting my Slaves To Darkness? Apparently not. An impulse buy from Amazon, 20 DC heroes for £17 (with a couple of repeat appearances, two Batmen, two Supermen, two Wonder Women). I set about crafting rules even though Knight Models […]

Discount Burma Bunker Busting

Emerging from the hobby sofa are some discount Chinese Nationalists. These Matchbox Afrikacorps copies… made in China now somewhat ironically masquerading as the German equipped Chinese Nationalists in Burma. I decided to face them off against the Japanese from the previous post with some fastplay WW2 skirmish rules I cooked up. I set the Japanese […]

Instant WW2 Developments

Those poor American Airfix Marines seemed to be lacking a bit of Anti-Infantry punch when facing the Germans despite their victory. This is down to the fact that while the German’s are festooned with machine guns, the Americans are only carrying two, their other two heavy weapons are Bazookas so until I include tanks in […]

Instant WW2

I fancied a tinker with Donald Featherstone’s Close Little Wars with my WW2 Airfix figures, but alas I had no suitable scenery… so with a couple of cans of spray paint, some newspaper, sticky tape and wooden building blocks I churned out the following: A nice crossroads to do bloody battle on! The sides were […]

Warpstar Nemesis

A package arrive from Irregular two days ago. Excitedly I pulled the newspaper packaging apart and spied my new forces, ready to relive one of the first rulesets I ever wrote ‘Warpstar Nemesis’. Two armies face eachother across a barren wasteland… who will claim ownership of the wooden block factories? Army Blue (top left) or […]

Dapol Gangs

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, well not very long in a blogging sense, some go dead for months between posts, but it’s certainly been longer than I would have liked. I’ve been floundering somewhat, butterflying from project to project and not making a huge amount of headway. I’ve been chipping away at the […]

Not Quite the Battle of Five Armies… The Skirmish of Four Warbands

More playtesting of my Fantasy Bash (needs a better name) rules occurred the other day. I played out a small tournament between four warbands of roughly 100 points each. Up first the Undead took on the Orcs, and the Undead came out on top, I suspect largely because the Necromancer poked his head around a […]

More Irregular Fantasy Bashing

Here’s where my latest bedroom floor game ended, with the Dwarves wiping the Elves out. I played with much smaller warbands this time of five figures each and both coming in at 100 points. 100 points seems to be the ‘sweet spot’. The Elves had: Two Wyches, a Warlock, a Warlord and a Wasp (I […]

An Irregular Fantasy Bash

I’ve recently been painting some Irregular Miniatures 28mm Fantasy figures for some skirmish gaming. For you today I have two warbands, first up are the Dark Elves: Second up are my Dwarves: I played a brief game tonight with some quickly hashed out rules that probably deserve a post in their own right, the goal […]

Sasquatches and Shardmen

In the interest of being a tad more outlandish with my fantasy armies in 2mm I put together two forces of lesser known or maybe unknown fantasy archetypes and had a little game because you can paint a 2mm army as anything you want, so why stick to the norm? My first outlandish army were […]

We’ve had 6mm Fantasy, how about 2mm?

Rummaging around through various boxes I came across a bag of Irregular Miniatures 2mm stuff which I believe were a French Napoleonic army, but I quickly turned them into two fantasy armies and still have a ton of figures left for more projects! I played a little game on the box I paint stuff on […]

Featherstone’s Ancients for 6mm Fantasy Battles?

I woke up rather early this morning, the house was quiet so I thought I’d play a little Solo game. I grabbed my 6mm Fantasy Armies with the intent of doing my best to work with the Ancients rules found in the following tome: There were some nice adaptations I could make right off of […]
