A Little Gaming Board

A little project I wanted to get done in the weekend just gone was a small gaming board for my anime-ish miniature skirmish game. I have somewhat of an obsession for playing games in smaller spaces and so I took a one foot square cork tile as the base. I cut the corners off of […]

How many projects is too many?

How long is a piece of string? How much more space is there on my hobby table? How many more draws do I have to store all my crap? To answer all those questions and possibly answer the question to why am I here, what is my purpose in life? Here are five gas mask […]

Asgard Mandiblax and Space Marines

So I’ve finished my little 15mm fellas from Asgard (now from Alternative Armies) originally for Combat 3000 which as I stated in my previous post I probably wont be using them for. Combat 3000 is a very complex and complicated system which is why it was originally for generic sci fi RPGs and not for platoon […]

Starguard is Awesome!

I was initially hoping to play a game of Combat 3000 this weekend, just something small and simple to work out the rules. Combat 3000 has eluded me however, it is extremely complicated and definitely not the sort of thing I was looking for. Do not worry though, my Mandiblax and Space Marines shall not […]

Aftermath – Story Battle Report

Flames cascaded over the torn remains of several men. Hook’s eyes ripped open to the sound of screams, he rolled onto his side and coughed a mix of blood and dirt. “Slake!” he called, but there was no response. He got back to his feet, slowly and painfully. A medic ran to him. “Are you […]

An Uneasy Peace – Story Battle Report

“Queen Ora Baranor and Minister Adrak Thrace, Sir” announced Coldan’s assistant. The Prime stood up from his desk and wandered over to greet his arriving guests. He attempted to exude confidence and power, his blue and white cloak covered large padded shoulders, he wasn’t a small man but they made him seem twice as big. […]

A Ramble on Rules and Deathzap

I took the opportunity this morning after waking up rather early to play the next game in my Deathzap campaign on Oltra the moon of the planet Kannis. Since the game didn’t include the Legion of Kharthion I figured it would be a good opportunity to iron out and tweak parts of the rules that […]

Monotony Punctuated with Terror – Story Battle Report

The scene would be hard to examine. The victim was twisted and broken, half buried in mud. Thousands of feet must have moved through this part of the defensive line prior to discovery. Army Detective Hook crouched low and took in every detail. Seven exit wounds on the victims back. His boots were mostly clean, […]

Rust, Dirt and Blood

Private Josef Steiner. Legion of Kharthion. No. 332143246. Rust, dirt and blood. The sky above was dark and oppressive. I’d checked and rechecked my Repeater, the mag was full. I knew it was full, but I also knew in a few minutes I’d check it again. I was shaking. It was strange. I was used […]

The War Begins

Prime Coldan Thrane backed away from his view screen. He nervously paced the room and listened carefully to the report. “My Sister will have fulfilled her contract flawlessly” said a voice. It came from a cloaked figure standing in the corner of the room. Her dark shape against the ivory walls looked like an ink […]

Deathzap 2 Play Testing and Campaigns

Men of the League of Zandor were seen today engagning in a bloody firefight with Mortan’s Men on the edge of District Anzo in En Sikkar the capital colony city on Kannis’ moon Oltra. The fighting was brutal and swift, as Zandor utilised their advanced weaponry and shield technology to devastating effect. Mortan’s Men suffered […]

A Deathzap Campaign: Oltra

The dark planet of Kannis is a patchwork of abandoned facilities and factories. The planet is rich in natural resources, but strange occurrences have put a stop to progression. There are whispers of ghosts, strange mutations among the populace and dark, arcane rituals carried out by cloaked figures in the shadows. Mortan’s Men a faction […]

The Return of Deathzap

After attempting to build up my painted model count I was increasingly finding myself working on older projects. Eventually I knew I had to return to this blog’s namesake game Deathzap! The rules in their original incarnation are on the menu for this site and I am currently also ruminating on Deathzap 2, but before […]

Quarantine Painting Projects

So over the last week I’ve been picking up those abandoned painting projects and either finishing them off or starting a few for the first time. I’ve painted three warbands for Darkfell. Zombie pirates and their controlling Voodoo Priests… Some Landschneckts… And some bizarre animal based knights. All minis are from Irregular and have their […]

Irregular Miniatures 2mm Yobbo Army

The Mrs and I are self isolating because of a cough. We managed two days back at work before another 14 day holiday. Hope you’re all keeping safe given the circumstances! I should get a lot of hobbying done since there is not much else to do. I dived (dove?) in this morning on my […]

Mechstorm

A while back I wondered what a Donald Featherstone Mech Combat ruleset would look like. I give you Mechstorm. The smaller Mechs are painted and based pieces from Risk 2210AD, the larger mechs and flyers are from EM4 (you probably already recognised them). For the rules the smallest of the Risk Mechs I named ‘Pups’, […]

Irregular Miniatures 15mm Star Marines

Here’s a bunch of guys I’ve had my eye on for probably a decade. Irregular Miniatures 15mm Star Marines were one of my first purchases this year. I’ve painted up a small force speedily to get them to the table, they’ve been primed white and then hit with contrast paints, I’ve picked out the metallics, […]

15mm Sci Fi Rules Ideas

Here’s a little bit of fun I think has legs! While I don’t have much if any suitable terrain for 15mm figures a stripped down Darkfell board will suffice for some play testing. Here’s a little look at my current thinking on how a sci-fi, or other game could be played. Each unit has a […]

Alternative Armies 15mm Ort Company

Here’s some miniatures I had my eye on for a very, very long time! From Alternative Armies Asgard range we have the Orts! As I mentioned I’ve wanted some of these for nearly a decade and only picked them up a month or so ago. They’re great little aliens, big robotic heads and small cloaked […]

Irregular Miniatures 15mm Space Scum (WIP)

I’ve recently been working on a Christmas present I received from my lovely wife a 15mm 100 figure Space Scum army from Irregular. They’re a work in progress so far, and I’m only working on an initial force of 25 figures, but here’s where I’m at. 5SF44 ‘Armoured Dwarf with Bolter’. These come in two […]

Irregular Miniatures 2mm Aliens

I finally got round to painting half of my 2mm sci-fi battle pack from Irregular Miniatures which I have based up for ‘Hell On The Margin’ the ruleset you get in the pack. Here’s everything. Hell On The Margin tells you to base things on 50mm x 30mm, although they recommend basing in threes a […]

Warpstar Nemesis

A package arrive from Irregular two days ago. Excitedly I pulled the newspaper packaging apart and spied my new forces, ready to relive one of the first rulesets I ever wrote ‘Warpstar Nemesis’. Two armies face eachother across a barren wasteland… who will claim ownership of the wooden block factories? Army Blue (top left) or […]
